Installation method of wood trim
Key Techniques for Wood Decorative Molding Installation
I. Construction Preparation
1. Material Preparation and Molding Selection
Before construction, prepare all necessary wood moldings and screen them:
Remove moldings with defects such as twisting, cracking, or rot;
The selected moldings should have a uniform color and minimal thickness variation;
The surface should be smooth and free of pits, damage, or other defects.
II. Construction Sequence
If the wood moldings match the substrate material and finish color, the finishing process can be performed first, followed by the finishing work completed together with the substrate. If there are significant differences in material or color, the finishing work should be carried out separately after the substrate finish is completed.
III. Substrate Inspection and Treatment
Before construction, check whether the substrate at the joint is firm and flat. If looseness, unevenness, or other problems are found, reinforce and repair the substrate promptly.
IV. Installation Process
1. Molding Fixing
Adhesive fixing is preferred. If nailing is absolutely necessary, it is recommended to use a nail gun. If using ordinary nails, ensure the nail heads are not exposed and place the nails in inconspicuous locations such as the grooves of the molding or the side facing away from light. For example, for semi-circular wooden moldings, when the installation height is below 1.6 meters, it is advisable to fix them slightly below the center line; when the height is above 1.7 meters, it is advisable to fix them slightly above the center line.
2. Molding Splicing
Splicing can be done using straight splicing or corner splicing:
Straight splicing: Cut the butt joints at a 30° or 45° angle, apply glue, and then splice them together, ensuring the joints are smooth and aligned.
Corner splicing: Use a 45° angle cutter to position the moldings, then saw them, apply glue to the cut surfaces, and splice them together, ensuring a tight, seamless, and misaligned joint.
3. Precautions
The butt joints of the wooden moldings should ideally be placed outside eye level or in inconspicuous locations indoors to maintain the overall aesthetic appeal of the decorative surface.
